Our Favourite: Nordic Clothing Rental Companies – Part 2
Copenhagen Fashion Week is almost here, and with it comes the need to impress with something fresh and never worn before. Isn’t it wasteful to buy outfits for one occasion though, you may be thinking? We continue to provide you with, what’s in our opinion, the best solution – here’s our favourite Nordic clothing rentals companies, this time from Denmark and Finland.
By transitioning to a circular economy, these companies answer to the damning impact of the fashion industry on the environment and open the door to a wider systemic change through an innovative consumption pattern. Long-lasting products and timeless designs are now key to the sustainable future we are working towards. Save the world and get your street style look now!
Denmark
Rent The Look By Malene Birger
With Rent The Look, you have complete freedom of choice with different options. The latest collections, as well as the archive, are open for you to browse the most stylish party and occasion-wear you can imagine. We’re all about “buy less”, if we can “wear more” of what By Malene Birger has to offer.
How does it work ? You rent the clothes for 1 to 3 weeks, which mean if you fall in love with them, you have the possibility of keeping the garments with the Buy It option. On the other hand, if you decide to buy a new item that was not previously rented and after a while, you no longer need it, you can trade it in exchange for a voucher. Clever!
How much does it cost ? No subscription here, but a fixed price per item depending on the number of weeks you want to rent it for.
This brand surely doesn’t need an introduction, and let’s be honest, we all covet their pieces!
How does it work ? For our greatest joy, the Danish fashion (power)house also puts its previous collections to rentals with a similar system as Rent The Look by Malene Birger. You rent the item up to 3 weeks, and can change your mind to “purchase” before your rental period comes to an end.
How much does it cost ? No subscription required, but a fixed price per item depending on the number of weeks you want to rent it for. For instance, a dashing mini sequin dress will cost you 599 DKK to rent for a week.
FINLAND
In January this year, the Finnish design house Samuji opened their «Samuji Archive» – a collection of women’s clothing and accessories, which consists of the samples made for production. The subdued, yet classy style of Samuji clothes will be perfect for an important dinner you may have coming up and as always, have nothing to wear to.
How does it work? The collection is available at the Samuji House in Helsinki.
How much does it cost ? No subscription either, but a fixed price per item.
Mirkka Metsola (only in-store)
From dresses and evening wear to accessories and ready-to-wear, the designer makes her previous collections and most-wanted items available for rent – either a one-off or via a membership.
How does it work? At the moment, the Rent It collection is only available at the Helsinki-based store.
How much does it cost ? 350€ for 3 months (up to 10 pieces) or 560€ for 6 months (up to 20 pieces).
