SFW SS21 – Beckmans College of Design: Artistic Originality and Craftsmanship
We’re always excited to see what the future of fashion – which is in the hands of design graduates – looks like every season, and despite COVID-19 bringing challenging times, this year’s Beckmans graduates certainly delivered some amazing collections. Overall, nature seemed to be the biggest influence on the designers’ work, but at times, the apocalypse and technology took over, in unexpected ways. We also loved the early 00’s strapping we saw in many of the collections, and easy but effective way to add detail and sexiness to a piece, which we love.
We would like to congratulate all of Beckmans’ talented fashion designers who graduated this season, but here are our three favourite designers, who collections we need NOW.
Jade Cropper
Jade Cropper brought an exciting use of materials and a slick, sassy feel to the runway. The colour palette was a lovely array of green, beige, and black which along with organic patterns and textures, gave us some very mature, natural vibes. In the collection, clever play with silhouettes and shapes was apparent, and every style was wearable, elegant and well-fitted. The collection covered the spectrum from bold and edgy, to pretty and girly, and we loved every part of it.
Jannica Hagfors
We were instantly swept away by the amazing craftsmanship, as Jannica Hagfors’ looks started to stroll down the runway. We were thrilled by how she managed to translate a coherent visual impression throughout her garments, appearing both as a textile in a lace-like, cutout fabric, and as a graphic print on silk surfaces – now that’s what we call creative complexity, and masterful execution. Her pieces were so imaginative and intriguing, and gave us dreamy vibes and feels of forest magic.
Alida Bard
With her unicoloured, elaborate and vibrant dresses, Alida Bard made us fall in love with her colourful universe. Each dress was very unique (we want them ALL please), with their own colour, details and style – yet it was apparent that they belonged to the same family, where they were part of a cohesive collection. Alida Bard showed us skilful detailing, great craftsmanship and interesting silhouettes throughout, where she has created highly wearable and artistically expressive garments.
