2020’s SAFD Graduates Bring Inspiration From All Corners
With inspiration taken from family, spaghetti cowboys and cartoon friends, we take a look at the world of SAFD’s 2020 graduates. The usual tradition, of fashion design students showing their graduation collections at fashion week, had to adjust to today’s regulations, which saw the designers bring their collections to smaller venues and digital worlds.
MIKKEL LYKKE
Mikkel has taken a beautiful approach to the spaghetti western cowboys – the range and attention to detail capture you in the fist moment. There is a clear remake of outfit staples, but in an exciting way with graffitied blankets, sweaters stitched together from scarves and use of robust fabrics, perfect for outdoor trekking.
KATRINE WILÉN
By using her childhood memories as the basis of her looks with some Scandinavian twists, Katrine Wilén’s collection has come to life. The embroideries a firm favourite of mine and bring a beautiful detail that elevates the pieces. With a mix I like to call ‘farming chic’, the collection is perfect for putting in a glass box and wearing in a muddy field. Is anyone else thinking of Roskilde?
RUNE AASLET
Stepping into the mind of Rune takes us on a definite trip. He took inspiration from his friends drawn as cartoon figures, and by doing so he managed to create a different reality. With patterns created for only the bravest to wear, put on items with shoulders that are “give me space“ approved, this collection is not one to miss out on!
EMILIE KIIRDAL
I’m always instantly drawn in when I see classic feminine silhouettes, but Emilie has done something different there. The base patterns are ones that can be found quite easily in the fashion world, but it’s the addition of – what looks to be – sponge swirls that add intrigue and structure. These pieces are beautifully unique and suprisingly versatile.
LINEA EMILIE SKOVGAARD
The longing for ‘rosé by the beach’ this collection is giving me is beyond. Beautiful, perfectly fitted silhouettes and the guidance of the lines is something that you don’t often see together. Many women fear black and white lines as they can be fattening, but Linea has designed her garments in a way that is flattering and classic, reminiscent of women lounging on the French Riviera. I hope to see these pieces get their deserved time on the runway someday!
Congratulations go out to fashion graduates at SAFD and I hope to see more of your ideas come to life from in the future! ?
