How to: Get Rid of Static Hair

Spring is in the air, but we’re still wrapping up and layering in case it gets cold and windy – and that’s not the best for our hairdos. Our winter-dry strands become dehydrated due to the lack of moisture in the air and when it rubs against the material of your scarf, hat or turtleneck, they swap electrons, resulting in static electricity and a not so flattering hairstyle.

What you can do to prevent you hair from getting static is add more moisture to your haircare routine, avoid using heating tools – or invest in ionic heating tools. A ionic heating tool works by emitting negative ions to help separate water molecules. This process helps reduce heat damage and won’t dry out your hair as much. If that’s not enough, here are some more tips for preventing static hair.

Moisture boosting shampoo

Cosmos Natural-certificated Four Reasons Moisture Shampoo is a great option to treat a dry scalp. With the help of sugar beet-derived betaine, organic almond and avocado extracts, this shampoo helps maintain hair’s natural moisture balance. Did we mention it also won The Best 99% Natural Treatment title in the 2020’s Nordic Natural Beauty Awards?

repairing conditioner

Urtekram’s Spicy Orange Blossom Ultimate Repair Conditioner contains hyaluronic acid and shea butter to deeply moisturize and nourish dry strands. The scent is warm and spicy and will take you on a imaginative trip to India (which is what we currently need as we don’t get to travel anywhere, right?). It leaves your hair silky smooth and hydrated, without weighing it down.

moisture-locking oil

Back to Four Reasons, their Moisture Oil is lightweight but intensely hydrating, so a little goes a long way. It’s a great option to treat even the finest Nordic hair. The oil contains plant-based ingredients such as sweet almond oil, which is rich in biotin and improves the texture of hair, preventing split ends. There’s also avocado oil that acts like superfood for your hair being rich in vitamin E, amino acids and minerals, as well as the beloved coconut oil that intensely moisturizes hair. This oil works best when applied on wet hair after the shower – if you’re using it on dry hair, take just one or two drops to add lushious shine.

nighttime care

If you haven’t already changed to a silk pillowcase, now is the time to do it, as you’re missing out on your dream hair. Silk creates less friction on the hair, reduces hair breakage and split ends. A silk pillowcase won’t absorb moisture from your hair, nor your skin, like synthetic fibers do. The Swedish brand SOA Stockholm have produced silk pillowcases that fit Scandinavian standard measurements and are made from the highest quality mulberry silk. Interestingly, mulberry silk contains 18 esssential amino acids, which are also found in our own hair. Soa Stockholm also provide silk scrunches to make sure your hair isn’t harmed thoroughout the day.

natural fiber scarf

To prevent your hair from getting static, a natural fiber scarf is a great option. Balmuir’s classic highland scarf made of 100 % finest cashmere is not only soft and warm, but gentle on the hair as well. The Finnish scarves are made of the finest inland Mongolian cashmere using classical knitting technique.

Silk scarf

The limited editon silk scarf by Björn Axen, designed by Iris von Herpen, is a beautiful option to care for your hair. Use as a hair accessory or to shield your hair from those biting Nordic winds. 200 kr from every sold scarf goes to Swedish Regnbågsfonden, a charity supporting competent organisations and projects in countries where LGBTQ people are discriminated, persecuted and killed.
