SFW AW21 – Lazoschmidl: Wet Dreams of Pastels and Latex

Through the lens of lockdown laziness and boredom, the genderfluid menswear presented by the Swedish duo of Lazoschmidl was a playful exploration of colour and texture – definitely not for your “average dude.” This collection oozes body confidence (as per usual with the brand’s formfitting clothing and LOTS of naked torsos) and calls for dressing up for yourself, even if you have absolutely nowhere to be.

There’s a lot to unpack here in this pick ‘n’ mix drop, titled “Cake” for quite obvious reasons. Uber-sexual latex tops and leggings resemble mirror glaze, jockey briefs have cake slices…there, and the cutesy knitted vests have some cake embroidery on them. I absolutely love the bold, unapologetic colour and print play – reddish brown paisley looks stunning paired with glossy baby pink, and I enjoy the powder blue total look. It’s definitely not a dark and boring interpretation of autumn/winter as we have seen before.

Although some elements are way too dominatrix-esque to make into the general public’s everyday wardrobe, as I said before, this is not a proposition for normcore wearers. Depending on your shamelessness levels, you can pick and choose elements of the collection to brighten up your personal style – the graphic tees, printed shirts and caps can be easily incorporated into more casual styling without going all the way.

Lazoschmidl has plenty of positive imagination, that makes femme still appear appropriate for (some)men somehow. A bit wild, sugary and out-of-the-ordinary, I’d love to seen them collaborate with Pseudonym on more wearable, but still beautifully androgynous pieces. This is the kind of menswear that needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, and I am here for it.
