Copenhagen Fashion Week Continues in a COVID-19 Era

Recently, we have been witnessing a shift in the fashion industry, and huge alteration to the traditional runway shows that we are so used to seeing. As COVID – 19 has swept the world, the fashion industry has had to adapt to the new, constantly changing circumstances, and the question: ‘How can we present our collections whilst adhering to social safety rules?’. But now, thankfully, it has been answered.

Digital and hybrid fashion weeks have been seen this season already; straight out of London, Paris and Milan with Dior opting for a digital show, Chloé choosing a hybrid event, and Jacquemus putting on an outdoor, socially distanced show. And yet, due to the amazing handling of the COVID – 19 crisis by Denmark, we now have the capacity for some physical shows, presentations and events with live audiences.

Last month, Copenhagen Fashion Week’s official website announced a new, “hybrid” schedule for the events, which hasn’t been seen during any Nordic fashion week so far. The new format calls for change in the schedule, ensuring that events can adhere strictly to all social distancing and crowd control rules that have been implemented by the Danish government. The CPHFW website states: ‘Copenhagen Fashion Week naturally follows the authorities’ recommendations in relation to reducing the risk of COVID – 19 and takes all necessary precautions when conducting our own activities during Copenhagen Fashion Week…Recommendations from the Danish authorities also advise protective equipment (i.e. mask protocol backstage), hygienic standards, crowd management, food safety, among other things. We would like to stress that it is entirely the responsibility of brands on the official schedule to oblige to the necessary protocol’.

Starting from the 8th of August until the 12th, the shows of the week will either be digital, including Samsøe Samsøe and Brøgger, (with no live audience, meaning the fashion fans from around the world will be able to see some of the Nordics’ best fashion brands showcasing their Spring/Summer 2021 collections), hybrid, including Stine Goya and Ganni, (allowing for both a digital audience at home and a live audience at the selected venue), and a small minority, including Designers Remix and Henrik Vibskov who will be 100% physical (meaning that the show will only have a live audience, and there will be little to no digital coverage). I am interested to see how the week and experience will turn out from both a physical and digital perspective, and make sure you follow us here and on Instagram for all the latest show reviews and updates.

See you in Copenhagen!
