Ole Lynggaard Celebrates 85 Years

Tradition holds that with celebrations, birthdays, and anniversaries, there is a gemstone that marks the significance of that event. As Ole Lynggaard, iconic Danish jewellery designer, turns 85 today, we recognise the significance. 85 years is typically marked by a diamond or sapphire and Ole Lynggaard is no stranger to gemstones. Since 1963, the namesake’s brand has been producing jewellery of the highest quality, from engagement rings to earrings to brooches. Born in 1936, Lynggaard dreamed of creating masterful fine jewellery in a design language that the world would “recognise as uniquely his.” As a young man he traveled throughout the world, gathering inspiration and returned home in 1963 to set up shop just north in Hellerup, Copenhagen.

Cranes, Snakes (my personal favourite), and Elephant are just some names of the collections that make up the Ole Lynggaard brand. These names are clearly influenced by Lynggaard’s love of nature, emphasising a love that manifests itself in its pieces. The designer’s work is dual parts sculptural innovation and design and can only be described as a playful yet sophisticated approach to jewellery. The brand is multifaceted and can be incorporated into a variety of lifestyles… timelessly perfect for the Scandinavian ‘It-Girl’ of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. In other words, Ole Lynggaard bridges the divides between past, present, and the future.

Tradition is an integral part of Ole Lynggaard, and the ethos of the brand lies in its honouring of family. Spanning three generations, the Lynggaard’s heritage is embodied in their work as the family collectively works together in all sectors, from the business to the designing. Ole Lynggaard is deeply personal, and the brand is just as passionate about their family as they are about their creations. Their honouring of tradition is infectious. My mother first introduced me to Ole Lynggaard and now I too love the brand. She has passed on pieces that I will keep within the family and pass on to my children someday. An archetype of Danish design, Ole Lynggaard shows no signs of slowing down his elegant creations and only furthering the brand’s iconic legacy.
