SFW AW21 – Swedish Stockings: Wearing Your Greens on Your Legs
One brand that has put Stockholm Fashion Week and Sweden on the map, when it comes to sustainability, is Swedish Stockings, who advertise themselves as the only sustainable hosiery brand in the world. Their SS21 collection (they’re not showcasing 6 months in advance) features their first ever plant-based tights!
Over the past year, we’ve seen an increased focus on tights and socks as a legitimate accessory in the fashion industry. With this in mind, I can’t help but wonder why a progressive brand like Swedish Stockings, presented a very…plain collection. The colours were bland, and there was very limited pattern – we know Swedish Stockings focus on the sustainability and longevity of their products, bit it would have been nice to see something more exciting on offer.
The presentation video was ok – simple, hand-shot, lo-fi – again nothing revolutionary. Of course, this isn’t the main point behind fashion week, but I wished that Swedish Stockings seized the opportunity of a new (digital) presentation format to how us something exciting. Maybe the revolution was in the composition of their product, which is truly amazing and exciting, don’t get me wrong, but we don’t know if this counts as an excuse for a dull collection. I would love to have seen something more exciting for my legs this season, considering Swedish Stockings have wowed us in the past with their creative solutions.
