SFW AW21 – Lugot: A Delicate Touch of Female Pleasure
‘The old school people say that you need constant news, but do you feel that way?’ This is how Swedish jewellery brand Lugot’s debut at Stockholm Fashion Week begins. Lugot produces their designs in small, artisan workshops in Arezzo, Italy with their focus on putting sustainable jewellery production on the map.
The demand from customers drives production of their collection, with only a limited amount of pieces made at a time, and between 20 and 90% of each piece is made from recycled materials. For at fashion week first timer, Lugot have displayed their understanding and the importance of sustainability from the get-go, weaving it into their brand DNA – digital applause!
Their AW21 collection consist of two concepts: ‘Corso’ and ‘Quincie’. The ‘Corso’ collection takes our thoughts back to the days where we could travel the world, feel new, salty waters on our skin and bathe in the sun. In the collection’s description they mentioned seashell necklaces, colourful beads and glass shaped by the sea, which is everything I imagine when I think of my previous vacations under the palm trees. Unfortunately, this was ‘all-talk-no-action’, as the only shells we were saw, were one tiny silver and gold one, not a key feature of the collection’s theme – I didn’t feel the sun on my skin or imagine the presence of a cold margarita in my hand…
Their other line ‘Quincie’, is already a part of their permanent collection, but has expanded to contain some styles with a more organic aesthetic. This collection lives up to my expectation – Scandinavian minimalism with a playful attitude, easy to layer, easy to wear all the time. Question – What collection is the cleopatra gold number supposed to fall under?
There are limits to what you can show in a one minute video, but Lugot managed to keep it focused on the thing that matters, their jewellery. For once I was pleased to not be thrown into any artsy interpretations of a catwalk or fashion film. The video showedcased the pieces in a beautiful and feminine way, with a delicate, erotic feeling. The use of fruit and flowers to underline femininity and delicateness of their jewellery was nice, but I would have liked something a bit more powerful, ‘feminine’ pink has been done before. In spite of a disappointing summer-themed collection, Lugot made up for it with an overall timeless, well-made and concise offering.
