5 things you should avoid if you want healthy hair this fall

Many of us can relate to having dull, dry hair throughout the fall and winter seasons, caused by cold temperatures and damp conditions. But don’t fret, we’ve gathered our top tips (and favourite Swedish products) to get your hair through the gloomy hair season ahead!

1. Use the right hair product for the right problem

Just as your skin needs extra love and moisture during the colder months, so does your hair. Using products that are made especially for the cold weather is the key for healthier hair – change your hair products to those that focus on protection and moisture-retention. Don’t forget to show some love to your scalp too, try a moisturising scalp gel or treatment to keep dandruff away, we love ACO’s Special Care Intensive Dry Scalp Treatment.

2. Don’t over use styling products

Your hair follicles need oxygen to encourage hair growth, so instead of layering styling products that clog them, invest in a good shampoo and conditioner that tackles your hair concerns, and cuts the need for styling products. Our current favourite haircare duo comes from Maria Nila!

3. Avoid tight ponytails

Are you one of the many people who enjoy styling your hair in a tight, high ponytail? We hate to say it, but over time this weakens your hair and can cause hair loss, breakage and loss of elasticity. To avoid this, try different styles that are gentler on your hair like a low bun or loose blowout. If having your hair in a ponytail is a necessity, use silk hairties/scrunchies as these are gentler on your hair while discouraging frizz. H&M have a lovely silk scrunchie and hair brand set available, perfect for facilitating all your favourite hairstyles.

4. Don’t overuse hot hair tools

Too much heat is never good when it comes to your hair. The heat can damage your hair and lead to hair break off in some cases. When blow drying your hair, always do so on a low heat – it will take longer, but your hair will thank you for it. Most importantly, never use hot tools without heat protecting hair products! Our go to heat protection spray comes from Ida Warg.

5. Make regular hairdresser appointments

It is extremely important to regularly visit your hairdresser to keep split ends at bay, as split ends can continue to split all the way to your scalp, which in turn can require you have more hair cut off than you want at your next appointment. Split ends do not heal by themselves, but by going to the hairdresser at regular intervals they can be avoided, and your hair will grow stronger and healthier over time. We keep our hair healthy in between visits with Evolve Organic’s Beauty Nourishing Hair Elixir.
