Top 10 Nordic Summer Trends
With the heatwave that is apparently settling in, summer is far from being over! It’s time to refresh our wardrobe and dive into the best Nordic summer trends to enjoy these glorious days to the fullest. Here’s our selection of high-end and affordable pieces you can easily incorporate into your summer ensemble to look as cool as the Nordic girls.
Pastel palette
From early spring, we have seen a range of pale yellow, mint green, baby blue, powder pink and purple flourishing across the collections – a trend that also extends to makeup. After all, when is it more appropriate to wear these fresh and candy-like colours than in the warmer months?
balloon sleeves
We know it by now – 2020 is the year of drama, literally. The feminine silhouette is redefined through exaggerated proportions, transforming our sweet blouses and dresses into striking statement pieces. Extravagant volume gives that bit of edginess and bold «night out» feeling to our regular everyday wardrobe. And for those, who worry about it being only a short-lived trend, here’s a hint about what’s to come – we’ve seen pre-fall and that extra puff if far from vanishing!
Relaxed Wrap Dress, & Other Stories
Birgitte Blouse, Stine Goya
noughties shoulder bag
As we already stated earlier this year, bags are an essential part of the 2020’s signature Nordic look, whether it’s extra-large or extra-small. Catwalks have been pretty clear about it too.
Maxi dress
Long dresses quickly become a staple in everyone’s summer wardrobe, regardless of height. Far from being dull, these are decorated with sharp details, playing with textures and transparency. Romantic organza dresses have been, amongst others, a big hit this season.
Zari handbag, Weekday
Katrine dress, Cecilie Bahnsen
Linen shirt
Whether it is for men and women, linen is always essential during summer thanks to its amazing cooling qualities. Water-absorbant, this natural fibre dries quickly and is ideal for the heat while being easy to take care of. Don’t worry about ironing – the crinkled texture is what makes linen unique. A simple, oversized shirt worn over cycling shorts is something we’ve seen on the streets a lot this season.
Bucket/Boonie hat
Straight from the ’90s, the bucket hat has been on many heads, departing from its original purpose (it used to be worn by fishermen). It is joined by its cousin, the Bonnie hat, which has a much wider brim.

Boonie hat, Rains
the Slip dress
The lingerie trend brings flowy and soft materials such as silk and satin, followed by feminine cuts, to the everyday look. Try pairing a barely there, napkin dress with a pair of chunky combat boots – here’s a festival look you can rock elsewhere this season.
Light tailoring
Remember that oversized, broad-shoulder masculine suit that was already hyped during fashion weeks before? Yup, this is what we’re talking about, but in its lighter version, which implies breathable materials and cheerful, more summer-appropriate colours.
Relaxed cotton suit, COS
Callie dress, Filippa K
Bermuda shorts
Casual or elegant, the shorts are getting longer, inspired by the Bermuda length. In this late summer, we’ve seen many brands setting the trend of pairing it with an oversized blazer – a cool, updated version of a business casual uniform.
Smock and ruffle
The devil is in the details, they say. Well, it couldn’t be more relevant when describing the current trends. With pleats, gathers and frills aplenty, plus puff sleeves and maxi-length that we mentioned earlier, summer 2020 is catching our eye, diving deep into elaborate designs. The season challenges us to make some strategic choices regarding our outfits, to have that little bit of «extra-ness» without looking tacky. For an everyday look, we can definitely go for a frilly top with a kick-ass fit pair of jeans – or, a total look, but toned down with a neutral colour.
Denim shorts, ARKET
Sheer v-neck blouse, AVAVAV
