Hot, Humid and BALMY

It’s hot in Scandinavia right now, really hot, some might even say ‘balmy’. As we spend our days in the beating sun, we can’t forget our sun protection factor, and one product we’ve found to be an essential is BALMY’s sunscreen.

For Helene Nyhuus, founder of BALMY, skincare and longevity starts with SPF. She began her sunscreen journey as a personal endeavour. “I was actually searching for a new sunscreen to use myself,” she explains. “I started to research different sun creams and I was shocked. There are so many bad ingredients in a lot of sunscreens, which can actually cause more harm than help.”

Helene wanted to focus on sustainability. “There’s no need for chemical ingredients” she tells me, “so I wanted to set a good example and show that you can make it out of natural ingredients, and get even more out of a sunscreen, other than just blocking the sun.” BALMY also has a healing effect, using a mineral filter (the sunblock).

“BALMY is totally organic and made with vegan ingredients in Denmark,” Helene explains. “There are no parabens, and no perfumes involved, making it climate friendly, which was important to me, and that’s why it’s also coral reef friendly.”

It’s easy to apply, and that’s the beauty of it. One container of BALMY’s sun lotion lasts a surprisingly long time, because you don’t need to use much – Just take a small amount with your fingers, and apply the sun lotion wherever you need it. Anyone can use BALMY – children, those with sensitive skin, vegans, people that are environmentally conscious, and so on. So what lies ahead? “The future for BALMY is exciting,” Helene muses. “It’s going global and new products are being developed. Soon you’ll see it in shops around the world. Most importantly of all though, I’m still going to be focused on being as nature friendly as possible.”
