Janus Rasmussen and Benjamin Hardman Collaborate on ‘Blóð’ Video
For his new track, Icelandic/Faroese musician Janus Rasmussen teamed up with Icelandic/Australian photographer Benjamin Hardman on the video, and it is BEAUTIFUL. Shot in the Faroe Islands by Benjamin, the video has a personal tie for Janus, and is the perfect accompaniment to the track’s moody and mysterious undertone.
“Originating from the same session as my previous single Jörð, Blóð was written and produced soon after. The idea was to keep this track as simple as possible. I wanted it to consist only of elements that mattered.”
‘Blóð’ translates to blood in Icelandic and Faroese, and is a fitting tribute to his roots and the country he has called home for many years. Benjamin is a master of aerial videography, and has shown off his impeccable craftsmanship in this video. Each scene is eloquent and entrancing – the pace, the colours, the islands’ formations, nothing is out of place, or too much. Benjamin knows how to use his eye to answer a song; something we also saw in his aerial work for Arnór Dan’s debut solo single ‘Stone By Stone’.
““The Faroe Islands, a remote island chain surrounded by rough oceans. The weather can often be harsh. Clouds cover the mountain tops, waves crash into the cliffs, and birds glide along the coastline. This video takes you on a journey through the seasons; the visual changes that make the Faroes such a unique and memorable place.””
As with Janus’ previous single ‘Jörð’, the piano is once again centre stage with a haunting motif that skitters and drifts across the piece, while the warmth of a rich layer of synthesisers and pulsing kick create an endless driving groove. The two tracks compliment each other in a day and night way, something I rather enjoy. I’m looking forward to see what else Janus produces this year, as ‘Vín’ was such a complex and exciting album, that I know he will only better. Do I think Janus and Benjamin need to do more together? Yes. It’s creative partnership that just makes complete sense.
