FOREO: Beauty Tech for Glowing Skin

Skincare devices are slowly taking the prime spot on our bathroom shelves, and no wonder as beauty tech makes skincare routines more efficient and effortless. So what is the deal with t-sonic pulsations, you may ask? The vibration in the LUNA devices cleanses your skin thoroughly by unclogging pores, gently removing dead skin cells, and improving detoxification by stimulating your skin at the cellular level. The result is bright, soft skin and improved blood circulation – which means mega glow and reduced signs of ageing. 

I tried out the LUNA Mini 3 brush that comes with soft medical grade silicone bristles – hygienic and safe, even for sensitive skin. The bristles come in two different versions; on one side you have super soft, small bristles for cleansing, and on the other side thicker knobs for massaging. The vibration combined with a face massage is a terrific way of relaxing facial muscles, especially tight jaws.

The newest addition to the FOREO family is the all-rounder UFO 2, integrated with beauty tech that gives you t-sonic pulsations, rapid heating and cooling treatments, as well as LED light programs that are pre-set for different sheet masks. The UFO device gently vibrates on the surface of your skin to boost the absorption of products and make the active ingredients in the mask penetrate deeper into the skin. This is further enhanced by thermotherapy (warming sensation) that preps your skin by warming it up to 45°C, and opening up the pores, making your skin more eager to drink up beneficial ingredients in serums, creams and mask essences.

What’s perhaps the most interesting function of the UFO 2 device – upgraded from the original UFO device – is the full-spectrum LED light therapy. LED light treatment is used to treat different skin concerns, and while the studies are still on-going, the research findings already show promising results for certain skin conditions. The LED light features in the UFO 2 use 8 different colored LED lights and have pre-set programs that pair different lights to go with different masks, so you get the optimal results out of the right combination. You might have heard of yellow LED light that is used at beauty salons to sooth sunburns, soften rosacea, and improve skin tone. In the UFO 2 you get this too, as well as 7 other LED light treatment options, to be used from the comfort of your home: red light to stimulate collagen production and boost the skin’s healing process, green light to even out the skin tone by reducing the appearance of discoloration (bye-bye, dark under eye circles!), and white light (the longest wave length that reach deeper into the skin) to tone and tighten the skin.

Once your treatment comes to an end, the UFO will cool down to a safe 5°C to calm down the skin, reduce puffiness and shrink the appearance of pores. The cryotherapy (cooling sensation) also has an anti-inflammatory and firming effect, and simply feels lovely to end the treatment with – especially if you’re experiencing a heatwave right now,

Right, now how do I go about using the UFO? Start by opening the app and scanning the barcode on the mask wrapper – the device will automatically give you a pre-set skincare treatment for each mask. Then apply the mask onto the device (pro tip: there’s a lot of the serum in the packaging, don’t let that goodness go to waste! Go ahead and apply all of it) and let the app take care of the treatment, The t-sonic pulsations, heating, LED light treatment, and cooling is all pre-set and programmed for each mask – brilliant, right?

My review

This tech facial treatment provides many professional skincare feature in only a few minutes, which is surely where it gets its nickname from: the Swiss Army Knife of Beauty. Having used the device (as well as the LUNA mini 3) for over a month, my skin appears much brighter and my blushing cheeks have certainly calmed down. My pores appear slightly smaller and my skin feels super soft after cleansing with the tech brush on a regular basis.

I can definitely see the LUNA and UFO 2 devices as brilliant aids for people, who work long hours and don’t have time nor energy to invest in skincare, or for parents with small children, who really deserve some pampering but are always fighting the clock. As we’re talking just a few minutes of self-care, this is your go to skincare treatment. It’s perfect to just sit back, relax and let the app and device take care of you for a change.
