Our Favourite: 2020 Winter Coats

Everywhere I go, I see people under blankets at the street cafes in Copenhagen, warming up on a hot chocolate or a glass of wine. The sky is dark, the air bites my cheeks and my beanie never leaves my head. This can only mean one thing – winter is upon us, and so is this year’s winter fashion. I’ve rounded up my favourite coats for this season from some of our favourite Scandinavian brands.

Arket

Concentrating on making high quality basics that you can wear for years, ARKET’s sustainability efforts are why they are high on our favourites list. This particular jacket is made from used plastic bottles and recovered fishing nets, that have been made into recycled-polyester yarn. The quality of the yarn is the same as virgin polyester yarn, but you can wear it with a good conscious – what’s not to like?

Envii

Copenhagen-based Envii never stops to amaze with beautiful winter jackets each year. Their silhouette is inspired by the Scandi trend of embracing oversized fits and every year they present a new check print that makes my lumberjack heart skip a beat. This jacket adds girly, beautiful pastel colours to a classic pattern, it comes in two colours, and being made from 25% wool there is no doubt that it will keep you warm for your hot chocolate appointments under the lights of the street cafes.

Saks Potts

Saks Potts never manage to disappoint when their winter collections hit the shops. The iconic fur collar and sleeves are again to be seen in this year’s collection with the characteristic waist belt in the waist that gives the coat a feminine silhouette. Even more colours has been added to the style but i’ve fallen in love with this brown gloss variation. The lacquer look is still trending in the Nordic fashion scene, and will instantly grab everyone’s attention. Yes thus coat is a little pricey, but a Saks Potts coat is an investment for life!

Sand Copenhagen

Søren & Lene Sand have been creating beautiful coats for almost 40 years and this year is no different. Sang Copenhagen is a Danish brand, that utilises fabrics from Italy to marry quality and style. They do Nordic style with a feminine touch and when I saw this coat, I was immediately drawn to the tweed fabric and the classic black and white palette – very Coco Chanel. The cropped sleeves make the jacket very wearable, you can combine it with your favourite party dress or you can layer it with a turtle neck and wear it out for a stroll in the city.

Stand Studio

Being brought up in the leather business, Swedish Nellie Kamras created her brand Stand Studio. The leather is sourced from India and the designs are crafted in Scandinavia: chic, simple but also very playful, Stand Studio combines neutral coloured leather and faux fur to create pieces for the cold weather. The base palette for this year’s jackets are black, brown and beige, but fear not, if you love a pop of colour, this jacket is perfect for you!
