KIOSK Grandi opens in Reykjavík’s Harbour District

The Icelandic clothing store KIOSK has opened at Grandi, one of the most popular spots in Reykjavík’s downtown. There are 5 Icelandic designers who manage the store together and they are Magnea, Aníta Hirlekar, Hlín Reykdal, Eygló, and Bahns. As we draw closer to Christmas, we’re encouraging everyone to buy local, so this is one for the Icelanders. There’s coats, dresses, blankets, perfumes and jewellery, so get shopping!

Aníta Hirlekar is a women’s brand that offers unique pieces, with beautiful feminine silhouettes (that could even make the French jealous) in colourful floral prints. Aníta designs all the prints herself in her studio in Iceland and makes sure that the dresses aren’t cut at the same spot each time, so every dress is ‘one of a kind’. The brand just recently released its AW 20 collection that brings us hand-painted silk pieces, colours to brighten up the greyest of days, and dresses that can go from daytime to happy hour in a blink of an eye.

BAHNS

The idea behind BAHNS, or “Bið að heilsa niðrí slipp”, which roughly translates to ‘say hello from me down at the shipyard’, is that sailors know where they should head by following blinking lights coming from buoys during the nights. The flashes each have their own length and speed and the brand imprinted these markings onto the knitwear, this special pattern brings a historical element to a timeless silhouette.

All their pieces are designed in Iceland by Helga Lilja Magnúsdóttir and Stephan Stephensen. They focus on staying clear of fast fashion and motivate us buyers to think more about the quality and comfort of each item than always having the newest thing. Their collections include unisex loungewear, kidswear, towels, blankets, and more.

EYGLO

Eyglo is a women’s brand designed by Eygló Margrét Lárusdóttir, that focuses on humour and eye-catching details – some of the motifs to point put are outlines of bodies from crime scenes, flying lipsticks, and Jesus, all part of the brand’s fun side. The materials she uses are all about comfort and quality and Eygló reminds us not to take fashion too seriously, but all while looking fabulous.

HLIN REYKDAL

Growing up with both her parents as artists, Hlín Reykdal found inspiration to go into the arts. Hlín started by graduating as a fashion designer, but then found her calling in accessories, her eye for abstract jewellery is one that’s not easily found. She creates eye-catching pieces that could be used as decor as well as the final touch to an outfit.

Magnea Einarsdóttir is the designer behind the brand Magnea, that focuses on using Icelandic wool and getting full potential out of the material. With every piece of knitwear she designs in Reykjavík, Magnea aims to keep the process local and sustainable. Using old-time methods and modern silhouettes brings an exciting, new look to Icelandic wool.

The brand’s newest release, ‘Made in Reykjavík’ is a collection of wool coats in various lengths and colours. One of the styles, Agatha, is a reversible coat that can be switched from mint blue to lavender – and has a beautiful shell-seam detail. The collection is designed and produced in Reykjavík Iceland, which makes every piece even more worth it and more pleasing to own.
