Norwegian Hip-Hop Group Giddy Gang Release New Mixtape

Indebted to the likes of J Dilla and The Roots, Giddy Gang’s new mixtape has given them a chance to share their unique contribution to the Nordic R&B scene. Starting out as a lo-fi collaboration, Giddy Gang were transformed by the addition of indie sensation boy pablo. With their shared love of gospel music, the band naturally moved towards hip-hop, bringing in the classic sounds of Nordic jazz and soul.

We wanted to release an entire collection of songs because we want to share the joy we have in making the music with anyone out there,” the band explain. “The heart of Giddy Gang is to provide something unifying in times of trouble.

While Giddy Gang are all classically trained musicians, they’ve become famous for their DIY ethos. Put together during lockdown, the mixtape (released on 9th October) is a beacon of positivity and joy, featuring contributions from Norwegian/South African rapper Vuyo and trombonist Sigurd Drågen, as well as Giddy Gang’s previous singles Thunderstorms, Shine and Giddy Good Time. While the record’s a joy to hear, as their name suggests, the band thrive on the live music scene…to appreciate their talent, we can only hope it returns soon.

If you’re a fan of Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator or Snarky Puppy, you’ll love Giddy Gang! Listen/buy their mixtape below:
