Our Favourite: Autumn 2020 Makeup Trends

Now that September is over, it’s time to dig into the newest makeup trends for autumn. I am personally in love with how makeup is evolving to be lighter and more natural – some of these looks are timeless classics, while others offer a fresh take for the season. Let us know which ones you’ll be trying!

RETRO BLUE EYES

Let’s start with my favourite. This look definitely attracts attention, as it did on the MIU MIU, Tadashi Shoji and Christian Siriano runways. The time for lavender is over, now we wear blue! You can use one tone of blue to make your look pop, or layer on a few shades for a bit more depth – if you are in the Nordics, H&M stock a beautiful shade called ‘Water Sprite’. Feel free to play with a deeper blue or cobalt as well, as there are no strict rules for this look, just remember to wear concealer on your under eye area, as blue can enhance dark circles.

Metallic foil

Want a standout makeup look that’s quick and easy to apply? Metallic foil placed around the eyes was seen at Simone Rocha, Erdem and Samsøe & Samsøe – we like it when Nordic brands go outside of the nude makeup box. Samsøe & Samsøe served a more gentle version of sparkle, which I love as it goes with most of your everyday clothing. Remember, the key to this look is, the more irregular the application, the more effortless it looks!

BUSHY BROWS

We’re no stranger to bushy brows they’ve been ruling the world for a while, and it looks like they’re not going anywhere soon. We’ve abandoned precisely drawn lines and gone for a more natural look that’s perfect for everyday wear – we’re loving the brows from HOPE’s latest campaign. Brow soaps are probably one of the most desirable products right now, and are the perfect tool to achieve a messy brow look.

MONOCHROME ROSY PINK

You can also be a minimalist when it comes to your makeup, but this doesn’t mean you have to be boring. Using a blush for your cheeks, lips and eyes is the easiest way to achieve a ‘done’ look with minimal effort and minimal products. We’ll definitely be going for monochrome makeup this autumn as it provides a youthful, fresh and summer vibe, perfect for those gloomy days. Swedish makeup artist Linda Hallberg has created a stunning pink look that adds a touch of glam in one, easy swoop. My go-to product for this look would a cream blush from Danish brand Kjær Weis, they’re silky, highly-pigmented and easy to blend across your face.

 CRISP RED LIPS

Red lips are timeless, and will always be on my list of must-wear makeup looks. Many designers including Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Jil Sander, and Jason Wu decided to go for this classic look this fall, and one of our favourite Scandi models Elsa Hosk, regularly pays homage to her favourite lip colour on her Instagram – side note: Congratulations on your pregnancy, Elsa! & Other Stories have a beautiful selection of red lipsticks for the season, so get yourself over to a store and get buying!

FOXY EYES

Looking for something a little more glam? Foxy eyes are THE look! Bella Hadid pioneered this look, using makeup to elongate the length of her eyes, and create an all-round sultry look. Use blacks, browns and nudes, with a slick of eyeliner to get the perfect eye. Want to take it up a notch? Get some glitter involved, obviously.
