CPHFW A/W20 – Gestuz: Where Fashion and Art Come Together

Gestuz have brought us some amazing pieces over the last few seasons, so knowing that A/W20 would be an “up close and personal” viewing, made the excitement build even more. The newest collection was viewed as a gallery exhibition – models as mannequins, gloves on display and the crowd included everyone you would hope to meet from the Scandinavian fashion world.

“GALLERY GESTUZ is a cross-disiplanery experiance, where fashion and art meet. The AW20 collection is interperated throught the eyes of multiple talents spanning the art world, using the collection as actual material or as an over all material. Gestuz wanted to create a world where you are able to discover the collection via multiple senses and views. We ask the viewer to play an active role when moving around the pieces and models.”

I didn’t know it until I saw it, but his coat truly is the coat of my dreams. The layering of a classic trench coat with the shorter version on top is a touch that I have not seen from another Scandinavian brand, and hopefully encourages more similar ideas to see the light of day. I need this combo in my life.

The A/W collection was created out of inspiration from artists from across the world – Alberte Skronski, Simon Dokkedal and Tex Bishop are a few of the artists that created items for the exhibition’s walls. The inspiration for the artists, came from whatever could be ‘touched’ by the audience – not only fashion-related items, the gallery space, for instance, included sound installations and sculptures.

The clothing puts a strong and edgy spin on the Scandinavian woman – oversized clothing with eye-catching details and footwear that was meant for taking over the world. This collection really teaches us how to mix the world of patterns with the world of classics, without them exploding into a mess.

Getting a chance to experience the designs with all of your senses was a beautiful experience. Gestuz has once more managed to create a collection that lands on the top of everyone’s wish list – well done to the amazing artists who also got to display their work in the gallery, we love it all!
