CPHFW AW19: STAND – Not For The Faint Hearted

If you thought the Autumn/Winter season was reserved for stylistic stupor, cold blandness and boredom, think again. The Stand AW19 collection filled the stark space of Nikolaj Kunsthal with a jungle of neons, vibrancy and spirit that so irresistible, that we just couldn’t keep our eyes off the show. From the juiciest colour palette, to the faultless leather craftsmanship, there was not a single piece that would reflect the stereotypical winter gloom.

The show exploded with an overwhelming richness of fur and leather saturated with electric purples, sky blues, canary yellows and striking orange reds. Faux (yes!) fur was everywhere – as stand-alone fluffy coats, but also as cuffs, trimmings, sleeves, scarves, bags and collars (takes a breath).

Fashion designers tend to either wow the audience with the strongest flavours first, or save them for a delicious dessert. In this collection, Nellie Kamras bedazzled us from the start, but did not get any weaker throughout. Although seemingly different, the looks were tied together with an impeccable quality of materials and a mixologist’s precision when it came to colour matching.

The only aspect of the garments that was questionable, was how wearable and flattering they would actually be in real life, considering the voluminous furs, hardly breathable leather and heavily oversized silhouettes. As an experimental luxury designer, however, Stand has reached a creative climax and we tremble with excitement to see what they come up with next.
