CPHFW AW19: Oh! By Kopenhagen Fur – Welcome to the House of Female

The ‘Peculiar’ AW19 presentation of Oh! By Kopenhagen Fur weaved retro glamour and babydoll aesthetic, straight from the 60’s cinematography into modern feminine reality. Choreographed into everyday chores of the twenty-first century woman, such as vain moments of selfie practice or the morning beauty routine, the collection launch came across as unexpectedly relatable.

Walking into the Christoffer Egelund Gallery space, we were taken by surprise with the unusual dollhouse tour form the presentation took. The resident models, seemingly unaware of their curious guests, went about their daily activities. The situations exhibited were designed with precision and respect for the smallest of details, which made the experience feel like wandering the set of a throwback rockabilly music video. Walking around and slurping rainbow-coloured slushies, we got to take a closer look and fully investigate what the new Oh! collection was all about.

Luxury fur items, presented through the ‘normal’ life peephole, gained sudden approachability. The exclusivity of the fast-paced fashion world was replaced with a polished, yet familiar setting. A floor-length silver blue mink coat casually worn as a bathrobe, presented fur as wearable for everyday.

In true Oh! style, most of the furry elements could be found in accessories or trimmings. A classic boxy wool coat rimmed with soft black fox fur and worn by Vivienne Westwood’s doppelgänger, as well as the camel two-piece finished off with funky purple fur pockets, proved Oh! doesn’t neglect any age groups, providing ladies with both traditional and younger options.

From under and around the glamourous outerwear, peeked beautifully painted, bold silk garments, making the collection extremely current considering the unmistakable 60’s vibes running throughout. Headscarves, neckerchiefs and intricately embroidered sheer slippers, added lightness to the heavier outer layers of coats and jackets. The pops of baby blue eyeshadow brought out that sexy, bombshell innocence and tied it all together.

Admirably, Oh! By Kopenhagen Fur managed to showcase femininity equally in a diverse group of models, regardless of their age, height or size. It was a refreshing sight, rarely if not ever seen in the strict catwalk setting. We were pleased to see some experimentation with colour and texture, as well as a revisiting of timeless cuts and silhouettes in the garments.

By choosing to organise a presentation rather than a traditional fashion show, Oh! created an imaginary collective of peculiar individualities, easily transferrable into the ordinary lives of extraordinary women. The models/actresses really got into their respective roles and performed very convincingly, making the Oh! installation one of the most authentic, yet visually pleasing events we’ve attended this season.
