CPHFW AW19 – Morten Ussing: A Cosmic Trip Down the Silky Way

We arrived at the Hotel D’Angleterre for our first show of the second day of Copenhagen Fashion Week. Now, Hotel D‘Angleterre is known for it‘s luxurious style and royal vibe, with magnificent chandeliers hanging from the tall ceilings, bordeux velvet sofas and golden mirrors, and what a setting it was for a new collection to be presented by Morten Ussing.

‘Acid Milk’ by the Icelandic electronic band GusGus started playing as the first model walked down the runway, and gave us a glittery cosmic breeze of feeling ‘on the milky way’. The hairstyles on the models were structured in a fascinating way, reshaping the human head into an alien-like form. The jewelry also complemented the galaxy theme,  featuring stars and planets in outer space, that shone in bright silver and gold. For the first few looks, Morten Ussing mixed different shades of blue, with touches of multicolored glitter in a beautiful way. As the show progressed, new colors were introduced: a warm and magical orange and a pretty pink – this combination of colors worked wonderfully together. The fabrics were soft and flowy, and the dresses took us on a trip down the silky way. Elements of 80‘s glamour also appeared on some of the styles, giving the collection more of an edgy feel.

A true magical moment that had us completely star-struck was when ‘The Queen of the Universe’ (as we like to call her) walked in: She was wearing a crown made out of silvery star-pearls, and wearing a dreamy dress embodying the milky way with all its’ stars and allure. The whole setting made sense in that moment: the royal chambers of Hotel D‘anglaterre, space references in the music, and the galaxy printed fabrics: They were the royals of the Milky Way.

During the grand finale ‘Nothing Really Matters  by Madonna started playing, with the lyrics ‘Love is all we need’, and we were left deeply inspired and empowered by the cosmic beauty of Morten Ussing’s AW19 collection.

Congratulations on a out of this world show, from all of us at Nordic Style Magazine!
