CPHFW AW19 – Hærværk: The Rebellious Teenage Astronauts

For the AW19 Hærværk show, we made our way through the colourful urban streets of Nørrebro; a neighbouring in Copenhagen known for its’ multicultural vibe, street art and teenage rebels. The show was to take place at a music venue for upcoming bands, where many young party kids spend their weekends. The venue seemed like the perfect fit for Hærværk‘s audience – the only big difference between this event and a regular concert night, were the flashy street-style photographers.

We took our seats inside the dark, black, windowless room, and once the lights turned on and the music turned up, we were hit with electronic beats, reminiscent of the sounds from a GameBoy or other games console of the past. The young models walk agressively down the narrow runway, wearing spray-painted Dr. Martens and knitted beanies covering half of their faces. The garments were oversized, either round in the shape and exaggerated like a bubble or straight like a box. Large hoodies and huge outdoor jackets dominated the catwalk, and were styled with ripped tights or slacks. Vivid colors of bright red, green, blue and yellow made the dark room light up. There was also an interesting experimentation going on with the materials, combining distorted vinyl with firm jersey. The collection had a hint of space mixed with punk, we felt like the models could have been characters from a space-themed anime movie or players in a nintendo game: Teenage rebels, ready to fight their way through space. It seemd oddly appropriate, since most people’s teenage years might just be as difficult to navigate in, as having to find your way home through outer space?

We were thrilled to play along in this exciting adventure of a otherworldly collection, and what a refreshing amount of colour from Hærværk for the season ahead!
