7 Tips You Should Follow For Better Skin

There are millions of things that can cause skin irritations, breakouts, and acne; and as many reasons as there are, there are even more solutions for them to be treated with. Creams, serums, face masks, treatments and so on. How can we tell what works and what doesn’t? Here are 10 basic but life-changing tips that you should follow for clear glowing skin.

1.  Don’t forget sunscreen!

I know, I know… Sunscreen is boring, but it’s essential for your skin and it’s the most important step in your daily skincare routine. Sunscreen acts as a shield to protect your face and body from UV rays every time you’re exposed to sunlight. UV rays can be very harmful to the skin, and you might not notice the damage immediately, but over time can be very harmful for the skin and even cause skin cancer. Sunscreen slows down the development of wrinkles and can slow down the ageing process too, keeping your skin and body looking young and glowing. Sunscreen is also ideal to keep your skin tone even, preventing brown spots on your skin which can be very difficult to get rid of.

2. Wash your face before bed

Not washing your makeup off before bed is GROSS. Our faces and bodies go through a lot during the day; grime, dirt, and pollutants build up whether you’re wearing makeup or not, which makes it so important to wash our faces frequently. The build-up from grime and makeup can clog the pores and cause acne/breakouts and premature ageing of the skin. The night time is when your skin works on restoring itself, meaning it gets rid of the dead skin cells to build new ones. This process becomes slower when you avoid washing your face at night, so don’t be lazy and ALWAYS wash your face.

Bioderma-Sensibio Foaming Gel

The Bioderma Sensibo foaming gel is one of my holy grail daily cleansers. It’s purifying and ultra-mild formula cleanses your skin gently without drying, leaving your skin feeling clean and moisturized. This formula works great on every skin-type and also calms irritated skin.

3.  Switch up your foundation with a BB-cream

If a foundation and moisturizer made a baby, it would be BB-cream. BB-creams offer you a light to medium coverage without the heavy feeling of a foundation and most importantly without clogging your pores, allowing your skin to breath during the day. The great thing about BB-creams is that there are so many different types that target all kinds of skin concerns, i.e. acne, oily, dry and sensitive skin, that you don’t have to worry about using multiple products. The benefit of a moisturizer while experiencing the coverage of a foundation? It’s a WIN-WIN situation.

4. Exfoliate

Exfoliating your face is as important as washing your face, except you don’t need to do it every day. Like I mentioned before, or skin cells renew themselves frequently, so if you don’t exfoliate your skin, the old skin cells start to pile up, leaving you with dull, rough, and dry skin. Old skin cells can block the new cells from reproducing and clog your pores leaving you with breakouts. It’s recommended to exfoliate 2-3 times a week depending on your skin’s sensitivity and skin type. You’re one step closer to healthy looking skin when you include an exfoliator in your skincare routine. Remember, there are many great exfoliators out there designed especially to tackle your skin type, so it is important to choose the right one for you!

5. Wash your makeup brushes and sponges regularly

There is no point in keeping your face clean if you are then applying makeup with old, dirty brushes. Since your makeup tools go on your face almost every day they collect what’s on your face like dead skin, oils, and dirt. Basically, by not washing your tools you’re swirling all this dirt around your face every time you apply your makeup, damaging your skin and clogging your pores. The result of that is of course acne and large pores (trust me you don’t want that). Stop that nasty habit and wash your tools frequently babes!

6.  Pamper your skin with a sheet mask

Stress is your skin’s worst enemy. When we’re stressed, hormones in our body over work and can cause dry, uneven skin, as well as acne. The solution to this issue is making sure you take some time for yourself; lay down, put your feet up and apply a sheet mask a few times a week or as often as you’d like for 20-30 minutes. Sheet masks are not only great stress-relievers, but also amazing for rehydrating your skin and come in millions of different formulas.

7. Drink water

More often than not, we’re so focused on taking care of our skin from the outside, that we forget the importance of taking care of our skin from the inside. It’s no secret that approximately 70% of our body is made of water, so we need to keep hydrated to balance the water levels in our body for our overall health. Just like any other cells in our body, our skin cells require water/hydration to function properly. Drinking water regularly will keep your skin plump, moisturized, improve its elasticity and also help delay the signs of fine lines and wrinkles. I know it’s hard to remember to drink water, I do too but it’s extremely important!!
