Nordic News – October 2016

I don’t know about you, but I am definitely feeling the cold now, my heaters are on, blankets are out, and my tights are firmly on – bye bare legs *cries*. But enough about the changing weather, as the current happenings in the world are more important. It has been an exciting month for Nordic fashion design in particular with a host of new collections being released from the likes of GEYSIR, H&M and Ann-Sofie Back, so let’s get on with catching up on the latest Nordic news!

  • If you have been living under a rock for the past few days, you may not know that the lookbook for the H&M X Kenzo collaboration has been released! *ALARM SOUNDS* As expected, the Swedish retailer has done it again, by teaming up with another stellar design house, and what a collection it is. Celebrating the ‘strong and loud individual’, KENZO have produced a collection of prints and bold colours that will excite anyone who dares to be different. The collection will be available online and in stores on 3rd November.

  • We headed to Milan to snap some street style for all you lovelies, and we definitely brought home the goodies! There’s Chiara Ferragni, print, pattern and plenty of Gucci. Make sure you catch Part 1 and Part 2 of our MFW street style and indulge your eyes.
  • Carrying on from last month’s Nordic News, Zara Larsson released the video to accompany her new single ‘Ain’t My Fault’ and we have one word to sum it up: HAWT! There’s plenty of dancing and having fun, and all in a beautiful mansion. Check the video out HERE.
  • Last week, the prestigious Icelandic Design Award was announced! This year’s main award went to ‘As We Grow’ by textile designer Guðrún Ragna Sigurjonsdottir, fashion designer Maria Th. Ólafsdottir and managing director Greta Hlodversdottir. ‘As We Grow’ combines tradition with modern everyday demands, creating clothing that is durable, beautiful and long-lasting. The ‘Best Investment In Design’ award went to the wonderful GEYSIR! Geysir have incorporated design into all aspects of their business, and have a brand identity that is simple and successful, allowing them to have reached great success in such a short space of time, and capturing the hearts of thousands.

  • Swedish fashion designer Ann-Sofie Back is one of many talented Scandinavian designers, and her brand BACK has taken the world by storm! Her collections are comfortable yet stylish, and a little quirky, but oh so desirable. Ann-Sofie shows a new playful and powerful side to the Scandinavian woman every season, and her S/S 17 collection is no different.
  • A slightly different update for you here, but none the less, one that is very important. Katla volcano in the South of Iceland appears to be going back to sleep according to the civil protection department. The volcano has seen a big increase in seismic activity over the past two months, but now due to a dramatic decrease in activity since Friday, the roads and hiking trails near the volcano and in the surrounding area have been reopened. YAY!
