Flat-Pack Furniture that Ticks Design Boxes

IKEA has been the beacon of hope when it comes to all things Scandi style with added functionality. It always answers the important questions about space, flexibility, and adaptability when you’re constantly on the move. With high numbers of ‘generation rent’ now demanding good looking furniture that’s also easy to move around, IKEA has always come to the rescue with products designed exactly for this. But, some are arguing that it can be easier and more stylish than IKEA.

Introducing flat-pack furniture for the 21st century renter, traveller, student, and anyone else that relocates often. These new offerings by two incredible design houses are perfectly fitted for people’s lives and are aimed to take ‘the headache’ out of moving because they have an adaptability for life. They tick the environmental boxes too – you don’t leave or dispose of your old furniture because it’s so easy to take these quality pieces with you. They give IKEA a run for their money with their focus on quality design.

At Salone del Mobile Milano 2016 the French duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed a self-assembly sofa for Danish design store Hay. The Can sofa comes as a two or three-seater and in muted colours – making it the perfect complimentary interior piece for any room. It all rests on a tubular steel framework that you put together yourself at home. The designers have said that they believe it is better for resources, involves less transportation, less volume, and less stock – it’s just a much easier way of doing things.

Salone del Mobile Milano 2016 also gave us more interesting flat-pack furniture. This time it’s the classic yet iconic Ace chair from Normann Copenhagen, designed in collaboration with Danish designer Hans Hornemann. Dubbed as the ‘glam IKEA alternative’, the Ace chair is the answer to fast lifestyles that want quality upholstered furniture but also fast delivery. You simply grab a box from the shop, get home and within a few minutes, transform it into an exclusive furniture piece. The back and seat fasten together with screws, while each of the four legs easily slots into spaces under the seat. The Ace chair is delivered in two attractive fabrics, as well as an exclusive leather. The Ace collection also includes a lounge chair, a dining table chair, a sofa and a footstool for a complete, easy furniture collection. Salone del Mobile Milano 2016 certainly was the year for the best Flat-pack Furniture designs!
