GEYSIR | Modern Designs Inspired by Tradition

Knitwear is one of Iceland’s most important traditions. When considering the northern Atlantic climate and Icelanders’ pride in their high quality wool production, it’s not surprising that wool is one of the most dominant aspects of Icelandic clothing design.

Most Icelandic fashion designers embrace this tradition, using methods dating back centuries and merging them with their own ideas and the result is usually some very unique and high quality clothing.

Icelandic clothing label Geysir has been designing and producing their own clothing line since 2010 with a strong emphasis on the use of Icelandic wool.

Fashion designer Erna Einarsdóttir joined Geysir in 2013 and has worked on expanding the label’s clothing production and taking the use of Icelandic wool even further.

Geysir’s SS16 line is the first collection by Erna for Geysir and is inspired by Icelandic women and urban life in the Nordics. The collection focuses on Nordic climate and the garments can be styled to please the eye while also being practical – which is a key aspect of Nordic design’s philosophy.

The collection has a combination of sewn and knitted garments in quality materials such as mohair, aplaca wool, silk and kashmir and making it has been a two year long process from idea to finished product.

Combining traditional patterns with modern design and contrasting natural earthy hues with bright reds and sleek navy blue, Geysir’s SS16 collection is a prime example of quality Icelandic design.
