Rodarte x & Other Stories collection

The anticipated collaboration between the high end California based brand Rodarte with the Swedish high street favourite & Other Stories is finally here.

The two talents behind this LA brand, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy never really studied fashion design. It was their passion and love for fashion which made them take this path and get into the industry. Ever since, they have been creating pieces which can be recognised by their clear signature – bold but feminine, dramatic but soft at the same time. Besides that, they have created a solid cult of followers and clients, such as Rihanna, Kirsten Dunst or Chlöe Sevigny.

& Other Stories is quite a young daughter of the Swedish retail giant H&M. However, it quickly found a place in the market, alongside our favourite Swedish brands. & Other Stories personifies a woman with her own distinctive style and story. It offers clean cuts, minimalistic designs with the “little extra” which makes its pieces so unique, but easily wearable.

“We wanted to create a collection that represents the textures of a California lifestyle. The clothes should easily transition from day to night and transform to one’s personal style and individuality.” (Rodarte)

So naturally, when this collaboration was announced, the fashion world got excited. The collaboration puts together elements which both brands are known for – uniqueness but simplicity. We could say, they created the perfect wardrobe basis but built in details which we can’t take our eyes off. It’s versatile and simple but yet the sequins, metallics, velvets and reds give the collection this oomph, which makes it young and playful. However, it still is a statement. It’s subtle yet bold. A perfect fusion of the two worlds of the high fashion and high street brand.

The campaign for the collaboration gives us this dreamy vibe, which brings us to summer days. It embodies women who will enjoy the comfort of the clothes, the aesthetics of it alongside with the long walks under the sun, summer parties, dates and carefreeness. All of it.

The collaboration being as exciting for the Rodarte duo as it is for us, the sisters created a music playlist to celebrate it. You can find it on Spotify and play it as a background music while online shopping for your new wardrobe finds from very likely the best high street collaboration of the Spring 2016.
