Reykjavik’s annual Iceland Airwaves festival, which had its last day yesterday, is known around the globe for setting its stages for up- and coming Icelandic bands. In the past bands like Of Monsters and Men, Samaris, and Sigur Rós have gotten their “big break” after playing at the festival. In addition to introducing the freshest of Icelandic music, the festival also features great international artists. Each year, this fantastic music festival attracts people from all over the world to enjoy great music, good vibes, and of course the beautiful city of Reykjavik. This year marked the 17th anniversary since the festival’s beginning and there is no doubt that there will be many more to come!

This year’s line-up featured many interesting artists like Hot Chip, Perfume Genius, Beach House, John Grant and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Soak, and Agent Fresco— in other words, the perfect mix of Icelandic and international bands.
After seeing almost all the performances (aside from Hot Chip in the Vodafone Hall on Sunday) Perfume Genius had one of the best sets of the year. Agent Fresco’s acoustic concert was also remarkable especially because it was held in the breath- taking Fríkirkjan Church. That is one of the best things about Iceland Airwaves though: that there are so many great performances with so much variation its hard to choose just one favorite!
