It’s the beginning of August and we’re beginning to take a few dreaded steps from the warmth and brightness of summer toward a darker and colder season. But fall doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom (it’s this gloomy girl’s favorite season) as there’s a lot to look forward to in spite of diminishing sunshine.
Fall fashion and home décor are something we have to look forward to and all our favorite design labels are presently racing to release their new collections for the season.
Bloomingville is one of my favorites, they keep in touch with current trends while also staying true to the classics of Nordic design, offering a vast variety of items for decorating ones home. This season they’re keeping to their Nordic ways, aesthetics and functionality, as well as drawing inspiration from retro 50’s and 70’s style. Simple shapes, pure materials, toned down colors and dusty pastels are the aspects that define the season.
The dominant themes are simplicity and minimalism, interpreted through clean and monotone color schemes while mixing materials and textures to create contrast – high shine metal frames are paired with untreated wood and glazed ceramics with cork to mix shiny and matte.
Marble surfaces are still a ruling aspect as well as geometric patterns that are now displayed beside finely illustrated botanicals, incorperating a rustic feeling inspired by nature. Nature was clearly an important source of inspiration as animal and plantlife is visible throughout the entire collection.

The Bloomingville AW15 collection has a pretty extensive catalog, with a huge variety of choices for the home. My personal favourites the “Divine” sofa (pictured right above) in grey, the braided rattan chair “Lena” in white, the vintage lightbulbs and a plate from the statement tableware line by Bloomingville’s artist of the season, Kristine Mandsberg, that featured one of my favourite quotes, by the young poet Erin Hanson.
– “What if I fall?”
– “Oh, my darling, what if you fly?”
I urge everyone to take a look at the beautiful Bloomingville catalog for fall inspiration.
