The Spring/Summer 2016 circuit is underway and while we eagerly await the Scandinavian Fashion Weeks, London Collections: Men kicked things off and gave us a taste of things to come from the Nordic designers. Denmark and Sweden were well represented this year with the likes of Astrid Andersen, CMMN SWDN, Soulland and Tiger Of Sweden all presenting over the last few days.
Astrid Andersen provided an asian inspired collection developed during a trip to Shanghai that had silk and floral elements while still keeping things in line with the urban sports luxe aesthetic that has seen her popularity rise with some of hip hops biggest names such as A$AP Ferg, who was also in attendance.
Swedish label Tiger Of Sweden also leaned on a country away from home to find their inspiration, however something a little more closer to home for the label that has been around since 1903. For SS16 Tiger Of Sweden took inspiration from Greece and showcased a lot of whites, relaxed fits and open collar shirts fit for a Mediterranean summer. The label also came through with a variety of work ready suits that continue to have a great quality/price ratio.
Soulland‘s “Iron Wheel Club” used a piece by American contemporary artist Charlie Roberts as the backdrop to a collection that spoke to youthful rebelliousness rooted in the African-American uprising. The looks provided an abundance of menswear staples (white shirts, bomber jackets and plaid shirts) as well as ripped denim and graffiti covered jackets hand painted by Roberts that provided the edge.
CMMN SWDN was boxy and cropped but lengthy as the Swedish brand dropped the “Genuine Fake” collection. A few questions were asked of the fashion industry and also themselves as the brand played up common silhouettes with their own distinct view. Absent were the logos and branding of seasons past as brown, navy, black and subtle tones clothed the models complete with Swedish Tretorn boots.
Check out a few highlights below and look for us back at the Stockholm/ Copenhagen events in little over a months time.
