Spiritual Landscapes

Spiritual Landscapes by María Kjartansdóttir is her exhibition where she collaborates with Icelandic musician Biggi Hilmars and multi-media artist Harpa Einasdottir (Ziska), exhibited at DegreeArt, London from 12th of May – 16th of June 2013. They transform the gallery into a vibrant eclectic place where conversation between different art medium forms complement each other beautifully.

“To be able to capture life and fix a moment of reality as it is lived is magic. I suppose my curiosity and passion for new places and experiences is what takes me out to explore. I am a traveller. To get out there and be a part of our world, makes me feel alive. It is never a solitary journey when you are collaborating with the sun.” Maria Kjartans

Maria Kjartans focused on Icelandic nature shot in various locations across summer and winter. “The inspiration for the exhibition was the Icelandic weather, William Turner, Ryan McGinley and our ancestors the crazy Vikings” – Maria Kjartans

The exhibition is made of three short films which Biggi Hilmars composed the music for and thirteen Photographic Lambda prints with nature in leading role and where nature shows its many faces. Displaying beautiful relationship between man and nature, pure and beautiful, in a magical way.

Part of the photographic lambda prints are mixed media in collaboration with the multi-media artist Harpa Einarsdottir (Ziska). Nature mystical side is emphasised where Harpa graces the photographes with mythical creatures that add whole another dimension to them. Be prepared to be taken on a journey, Spiritual Landscapes is magical, sincere and haunting exhibition like you can see on the images.
